
Since the harsh winter of 2010, the price of wholesale gas has risen by over 30%, which has forced some of the UK’s biggest energy companies to keep their prices in line with that increase. One of the ‘Big Six’ energy companies, British Gas, decided to pass on the increase to its customers, with average gas prices rising by 18% and electricity hiked by a similarly eye-watering 16%. The Centrica-owned energy giant isn’t alone in pushing huge price increases on its home and business customers, but for hard-pressed people struggling to pay their bills, it’s a huge blow.
